Funeral services were held for George Gilbert Hollier, 88, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 11. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Mausoleum.
Mr. Hollier died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings. He was a World War II veteran, who was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus. He was a master wood craftsman and opened his woodwork shop in 1948 and continued to work in that shop until it was closed in 2007 due to his illness.
Survivors include one sister, Shirley H. Verrette and her husband, James Harold, of Lake Charles; one brother, Jack C. Hollier and his wife, Carol, of Anacoco; one niece, Sheila Justice and her husband, Frank, of Groves, Texas; three nephews, Dennis Verrette and his wife, Lisa, Donald Verrette and his wife, Shively, and Patrick Verrette and his wife, Annette, all of Lake Charles; and three great-nephews, Steve Munson and his wife, Maria, of Dallas Texas, Mark Hollier and his wife, Hollie, of Ragley and Jason Hollier of Anacoco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise LaLonde Hollier and Oscar Hollier; two brothers, Louis and Frank Hollier; one sister-in-law, Euna Guillory Hollier; and one nephew, Bryan Munson.
Father Mark Melancon and Father Richard Vidrine officiated.
Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou was in charge of arrangements.
