CHS class of 1958

On Saturday evening of June 28, the Crowley High School Class of 1958 held its 50th year reunion at the Town Club. Over 50 percent of the remaining class members attended. Earlier in the day a sizable group attended a brunch at a local restaurant, followed by a tour of the Crowley City Hall and the Grand Opera House.

In the main room of the Town Club, large tables were decorated with green and gold centerpieces, miniature top hats, canes, scarves and a placard bearing the school emblem. A large poster containing the yearbook photographs of the students and faculty members was displayed for viewing. On the reception table was a pictorial memorial to deceased classmates.

A short program was conducted by Carl Brazell, class president. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by a moment of silence in memory of deceased faculty and classmates. Loretta Jackson, who furnished a beautiful floral bouquet for the main table, read an inspiring poem she had composed. The program ended with a prayer given by the Reverend Charlie Freeland, followed by the singing of the Crowley High School Alma Mater expertly led by Suzanne Firmin on the keyboard.

Charlotte Hamic received a “medal of distinction” for her work on the class scrapbook. Charles King received a gift for coordinating the reunion. Geraldine Guillot won a prize for having the most grandchildren. Lloyd Stoessel won prizes for traveling the farthest distance to attend, for having the youngest child and for being the most active person on the dance floor.

The night’s entertainment was provided by recording artist Terry Rue, accompanied by Russell Meche on the guitar. Recorded “Oldies” music was also played from the stage for listening and dancing.

Guests were treated to a variety of refreshments prepared and served by the Town Club staff. A special reunion cake was enjoyed by all.

They came early, stayed late, danced a little, smiled a lot and ate heartily.

Reunion committee members included Shelby Arnaud, Sylvia Bigelow, Charlotte Hamic, Charles King, Freda Leleux, Russell Meche, Johnny Sarver, Carolyn Spell and Betty Vallot. Barbara Vallot was also recognized for helping with the reunion decorations.
