College World Series ripe for underdogs

With the start of the College World Series this weekend, the field of eight has a whole new landscape than it has in the past.
This year’s series looks like it may be ripe for a Cinderella team to take hold of the title come June 28.
The tournament has two first time teams in the field with U.C-Santa Barbara and Coastal Carolina making their CWS debuts. Coastal Carolina knocked out LSU in the super regionals last weekend.
What is even more intriguing is the fact that only one SEC school (Florida) and only one ACC school (Miami) are represented in Omaha this year.
The SEC has been the dominate conference the past eight years at the CWS. Since 2008 there has been an SEC team in the finals every year with four out of the last eight winners from the conference.
This postseason has been disastrous for national seeds, as five of the top ranked teams in the nation fell before the CWS. Also, huge not for Florida fans, the number one seed has not won a title since Miami took home the trophy in 1999.
If you had to bet on a conference to win it all this year, your money should be on the Big 12 conference, as they have three representatives at the CWS (Oklahoma St., Texas Tech and TCU).
This is the third consecutive appearance by TCU. However, Texas Tech is 3-0 in elimination games this postseason and Oklahoma St. has not made an appearance since 1999.
It will be an interesting watch, even if you do not have a dog in the hunt. Tune in, you just may see history.
