Fontenot scores more post-season awards

Former McNeese pitcher Kaleb Fontenot has garnered more post-season accolades.
McNeese baseball head coach Justin Hill has announced this year’s recipients of Frank Landry, Jr. Most Valuable Player of the Year award.
The Frank Landry, Jr. Most Valuable Player award is named in honor of Frank Landry, Jr. The MVP is awarded to the most valuable pitcher and position player as voted on by the players and coaching staff.
This year’s MVP honor was awarded to seniors Connor Crane and Kaleb Fontenot.
Fontenot, who was drafted by the Texas Rangers last weekend, finished his career with a 6-5 record and 2.02 ERA in 15 starts.
The Ville Platte, La., native ranked in five Southland Conference overall pitching categories with 107.0 innings pitched (3rd), 108 strikeouts (1st), two shutouts (1st), games started (1st) and a .209 opponent batting average (2nd).
Fontenot was also chosen as a Southland Conference All-Conference selection and was named to the 2016 Southland Conference All-Tournament Team.
“Kaleb had one of the most impressive individual seasons I’ve ever witnessed,” said Hill. “His work ethic and consistency were second to none. I’m so happy for him and his family that he will be continuing his career with the Texas Rangers.”
On top of that, Fontenot was also named to the Southland Confernence Baseball All-Academic team. He was one of five McNeese players to earn that honor. This is the third consecutive year that McNeese has tallied the most student-athletes voted on the team.
Fontenot finished with a 3.17 GPA in Management and is currently playing for the Tacoma Indians in the Short A minor leagues.
