LAFAYETTE, La. – After falling behind 1-0 in the seventh inning, the sixth-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team rallied to defeat Sam Houston State 2-1 in 10 innings at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field on Friday night in the team’s 2016 season opener.
“We got a critical play at a critical time in the game,” head coach Tony Robichaux said. “You want to end on a good note, especially at home. You want to take care of these good fans, especially when they are out in big, big numbers like they were. You’re not going to win every game, but when you have a chance to win a game and your are tied, you want to get that done at home.”
The win improves the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0) to 16-6 in season openers and 18-4 in home openers under Robichaux.
Both teams had four hits in the contest with seven of the eight combined hits coming after the sixth inning.
Reliever Dylan Moore earned the victory for the Cajuns going 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to close out the contest. Moore had three strikeouts in the outing and did not give up a hit.
