As the all-star season continues along, the Ville Platte Girl’s Softball association teams are showcasing their talents across the region and are continuing to find success in every tournament they have played.
This past weekend, the 10-year-old team, made up of all nine-year-olds proved once again that inexperience can be overcome with talent.
The all-stars collected another tournament title, this time in Rayne. The team went undefeated in seven games and outscored their opponents 66-6 and shut out five of the seven teams faced in the tournament.
With two tourney titles under their belt so far this all-star season, head Coach Shane Darbonne is really pleased with his team’s progress.
“We are playing really well right now,” said Darbonne. “These tournament wins will definitely give our team some confidence as we head into the rest of the season.”
Another VPGSA all-star team that is getting some good experience is the seven-year-old all-stars nicknamed the Red Hots. These young ladies face teams throughout the year that are made up of all eight-year-olds.
This past weekend the Red Hots also participated in the Rayne tournament and despite their 0-4 record, head coach Todd Ardoin has seen progress in his team’s play.
“I really thought the girls competed all weekend and show continued improvement,” said Ardoin. “Our girls are young compared to the other teams, but we always give it our all.”
