Heritage Manor News: Levels of activites

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)
Activities can be divided into three different levels of resident abilities. Any activity can be adapted to enable the residents to achieve success and enjoy the activity. For high focusing activities, the staff needs to provide more hands-on assistance and verbal instructions to keep the residents focused on what is taking place. For the more focused activities, residents need more assistance from the staff, and the less focused activities, those are for the residents who are the most independent, cognitively aware and capable. Activity professionals are fortunate enough to be able to attend educational sessions focusing on the development and delivery of activity services for their residents.
Activities this week include manicures, pokeno, Come Lord Jesus group, bingo sponsored by the Ville Platte Rotary Club, group exercise, in-room visits, arts and crafts, social reading, rosary and ice cream party sponsored by the VFW.
The staff of Heritage Manor wishes a Happy Birthday this week to Theresa Fontenot, Florence Ardoin and Felicien Lejeune Jr.
The staff of Heritage Manor sends get-well wishes to our residents in the hospital.
Congratulations to the pride card winner for the month of November Sandra Jones. She assists residents with many activities and parties. We salute our active staff.
Our residents, staff and family members are all encouraged and invited to attend our annual sweets party held each year the day before Thanksgiving. Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite dessert to share and is asked to please call ahead to let us know what you plan to bring. Please ask for the activity department.
