Heritage Manor News: St. Patrick’s Day

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Patricia Duplechin, resident activity director at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte. This column runs every Sunday in The Gazette.)
Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born near the end of the fourth century in the area of what is New Wales. He was the son of a Catholic deacon. He was 16 years old when he was kidnapped by a group of Irish pirates. He was taken to Ireland and was a slave for a sheep farmer for six years. During this time, he began to have religious visions and became a Christian. He escaped and went to France, where he studied in a monastery. He became a priest and later a bishop. His goal was to return to Ireland to convert pagans to Christianity. His mission in Ireland lasted 30 years. He died on March 17 in 461 A.D. St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday that honors him and credits him for converting many people to Christianity in the Fifth Century. Our St. Patrick’s Day party will begin at 2 p.m. in the activity room.
Other activities this week include in-room visits, pokeno, Come Lord Jesus group, exercise, service by Community Prayer Line, rosary, bingo sponsored by the VFW, horseshoes and mass.
