Minister’s Corner: Saved by grace

By: DR. BRIAN DORE’

Man, in the Old Testament times, was saved by looking forward to what was to be accomplished, and offered up sacrifices in faith. Since the Cross, in the dispensation of grace, man looks back to the Cross and is saved by accepting what has been accomplished there already. We can “therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in the time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
When Christ died at Calvary, He paid the sin debt for all those Old Testament saints who died in faith, as well as for all those who should afterward believe in Him. God sent His son into the world to die for man’s sin and to redeem man back to God. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:29 KJV, “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself.” Christ’s work was a “once-for-all” work; “There remaineth no more sacrifice for sin.”
God has made this salvation available to everyone, without restriction, Jew and Gentile, yet the receiving of its blessings and benefits hinge upon each person’s acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
The acceptance or rejection of Christ as the only savior constitutes the primary test during this present dispensation of grace. It says in Titus 2:11 KJV, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men.”
Man’s sin and shame and God’s redeeming grace is the substance of the Bible. As man’s iniquity is unfathomable, so is God’s grace: “Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” (Romans 5:20) I praise God that the divine plan of redemption reaches the lowest sinner, and lifts the believer into a life of victory, happiness, holiness and eternal bliss.
