Chataignier’s chief of police dies at 62

The longtime Chief of Police for Chataignier has passed away.
Paul Allen Jr. died on Tuesday morning at the age of 62 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte. Allen had served as police chief for the village in Evangeline Parish for 28 years.
“He meant a lot to the community,” Chataignier mayor Jackie Malveaux Thomas said. “He was dedicated. He was a very nice person to work with. I enjoyed the time he served under my administration. He will be truly be missed.”
Mayor Thomas said that she anticipates that at the next town meeting that someone will be appointed to replace Allen.
Visitation will be held between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Mary Baptist Church in Chataignier. Funeral services will follow visitation and burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Allen leaves behind four sisters and one brother.
