The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office has finally released the names of two individuals that were arrested in connection with the Mamou stabbing that took place during the town’s Mardi Gras celebration.
The names of these individuals, who were arrested nearly four weeks ago, were only released, according to KATC News, after the local news source “filed several public records requests” to the EPSO and “sought assistance from an attorney.”
On Monday, KATC released a statement informing the public that Stacey M. Fontenot, 47, and Valerie M. Thibeaux, 37, were the two people arrested in connection with this crime.
Fontenot, of Carencro, was arrested on February 11, 2016 for aggravated battery, and Thibeaux, also of Carencro, was arrested on February 19, 2016 for obstruction of justice.
According to the KATC report, “It’s unclear why the sheriff’s office declined to release the suspects names.”
The KATC release also stated that “a third arrest is pending” in connection with the February 9 stabbing.
The two individuals that have been arrested have both been released from jail on bond. Fontenot was released after posting a $75,000.00 bond, while Thibeaux was released on a $25,000.00 bond.
