After five days on the run, Lake Cove resident turns himself over to EPSO

The manhunt for Brandon Messer has come to an end.
Messer, who had been on the run since Thursday, August 20, turned himself in to Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office late on Monday, August 24.
According to family friend Latoya Guillory, Monday afternoon Child Protective Services also at the home of Messer’s parents, Eugene and Michelle, to remove Messer’s two children from the home. At this time, the two children remain in the custody of the state.
A warrant of arrest had been issued on Messer after a complaint was made to the EPSO concerning an incident that occurred on Wednesday, August 19. According to the EPSO press release, Messer had shot and killed a dog and “threatened to shoot and kill the pastor along with members of his congregation” at the Happy Hallow Holiness Church in Lake Cove.
In the midst of the search for Messer, two other arrests were made in connection with his case including Messer’s girlfriend, Kayla Campbell, and his father Eugene.
Messer’s father was charged with accessory after the fact and interfering with the duties of a police officer while Campbell has been charged with accessory after the fact, possession of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance (Methamphetamine and Hydrocodone), and possession of a schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (Diazapam).
Messer’s father was released from jail Friday on a $30,000.00 bond, while Campbell still remains in the parish jail. Guillory said, “I believe Kayla is still in jail here, but she will be transferred to Texas soon because she had a previous warrant out for her arrest there.”
The EPSO has yet to release a statement concerning what Messer has officially been charged with or if a bond has been set.
