Items reported to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Thursday, June 12, led detectives to take a Eunice man into custody.

Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives, said the items were taken from a residence in the L’anse Meg area. He said the owner did not know exactly when the items were taken, but a red car was reported at the house Saturday.

Detectives began following leads, which led them to Travis Soileau, 37, (dob 9-14-75), 599 Rozas Road, Eunice. They learned Soileau allegedly sold items to an individual in Acadia Parish, and the items they were searching for were reportedly seen in Soileau’s vehicle.

Authorities believe Soileau was attempting to sell these items in Acadia Parish. Dupre said they contacted Soileau’s boss, who had knowledge of some items that were purchased from Soileau approximately a week ago. He said those items included a chain saw, skill saw, a drill and other types of saws and tools.

Dupre said detectives began contacting other parishes to see if the items had been taken from another area. Then, on Friday morning another victim reported items taken from his residence. He said those items matched the description the victim gave.

As a result of this investigation, which was being conducted by Detective Danon Maricle, Maricle and Dupre went to Vidrine with the second victim. A positive identification was made. They spoke to Soileau’s boss, who asked Soileau to come to Vidrine. Soileau was arrested and taken into custody. He was booked into the parish jail.

“He’s uncooperative right now,” Dupre said. “No bond has been set at this time.” He said charges of burglary and theft will be filed against Soileau, who also has a probation hold on him.
