Field of changes

The Delcambre baseball field at A.A. Comeaux Park in Abbeville is currently undergoing renovations. The project will redesign the field, and is estimated to be completed in the next couple of weeks.

“We’re basically turning the field around,” says Abbeville mayor, Mark Piazza. “We want to make it more accessible to bleachers and a concession stand.”

The project is being spearheaded by A.A Comeaux Youth Incorporated. According to Mayor Piazza, funds for the renovation came from two sources.

“The City of Abbeville was awarded an appropriation grant for $15,000 from the State of Louisiana with the assistance of Senator Nick Gauthreaux,” said Mayor Piazza. “The city is matching the grant amount.”

Other projects in the park are also in the works. Pavilion #2 will be renovated due to a different appropriation grant within the upcoming year. Theriot Field will begin renovations at the end of the summer thanks to a grant received by A.A. Comeaux Youth Incorporated and funds donated by the city, the American Legion and Abbeville High. Another project in the works is the Bradley Polombo Sports Complex, a new football field planned to be completed this fall.

“Several people and organizations use A.A. Comeaux Park for outdoor recreation,” says Piazza. “I think it’s important to the community of Abbeville and Vermilion Parish that we try to maintain it as best as possible.”
