Gueydan Duck Festival starts tomorrow

This weekend people will flock to the town of Gueydan for the 32nd Annual Gueydan Duck Festival which kicks off activities on Thursday evening with an invocation from Reverend Mitchell Guidry.

Music, food, games and fun will be featured at the yearly festival that centers around The Great American Flyway and the sport of duck and goose hunting.

The festival features a Duck and Goose Calling contest, Skeet Shooting, Hunting Dog Trials, and Decoy Carving to honor the Acadiana heritage of hunting.

In addition there is nightly bands, Junior and Senior Queen’s Pageants, a Grand Parade, outdoor and indoor cooking contests, an auction, arts and crafts, and a carnival. Admission is free for school age children all weekend.

“We are looking forward to hosting this great event for people across the parish, the state and the nation,” Mayor Bob Hensgens said.

Gueydan will see an average of 15,000 to 20,000 people come through the gates of the Duck Festival grounds by the end of the weekend.

“Don’t forget to take the time to come into town and go to the G&H outdoor sale as well as taking time to see the cleanest little town in the state,” Hensgens added.

The festival runs through Sunday afternoon.
