Bulldogs’ O-line is key to playoff birth

By: Lance Reed

Going into Class 3A was never going to be easy for the Bulldogs of Ville Platte High and Head Coach Tracy Jagneaux. He knew that when the season began.

“Just because the numbers change don’t mean that we have,” he said before the season commenced. “We are still the same team that we were in 2A. The competition just got tougher.”

Jagneaux and the Bulldogs came out swinging and have put themselves in a position to make the playoffs. A win this week against Northwest High School at the Dog House could be what the Bulldogs need. After dropping two straight games, the Dogs are hungry for a win.

Northwest has won two in a row. They defeated Port Barre and Pine Prairie. The Raiders have themselves in a position to make the playoffs win or lose tomorrow night. However, a win puts them in a position to win a first round game.

Ville Platte needs to win to solidify a spot. A loss and the Bulldogs will be on the bubble. To win, VPHS has to get their offense moving again. Last week, they were shut out and only generated 195 yards of total offense. For a team like VPHS that has the talent to score several points, all indications point to the offensive line. The line has been decimated by injuries and the fact that many of the District 5-3A opponents are simply bigger. The VPHS offensive line is the key to success. Not only tomorrow night, but in the playoffs also should VPHS qualify.

Ville Platte has to get something going early on offense in this one. The Raiders are too good to stay close in this game,

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ville Platte High.
