Bulldogs head east to face St. Charles Comets

The Bulldogs of Ville Platte High earned a 42-12 victory over their old rival, Oakdale, last week. The win was big for the Bulldogs as they wanted to have momentum to head into tomorrow night’s game against St. Charles Catholic.
Ville Platte (2-1) put together a total team effort as they destroyed the Warriors of Oakdale. On offense, the second-year signal caller hurled the football for nearly 300 yards and made it look easy. The VPHS running attack was led by Jermarcus Jones who averaged 6.8 yards per game and helped his team put up another 241 yards on the ground.
The Comets (2-2) have lost to East Ascension (Class 5A) and East Jefferson (Class 4A). The Comets are coming off of a 62-20 win over Miller McCoy.
The Comets are traditionally a throwing team. They use their attack to get the defenses off the running backs. For the most part, what St. Charles Catholic Head Coach Ty Monica likes to do is bait a team into opening up their defensive units. Once they open up, Monica unleashes his rushing attack and that has worked for the most part.
St. Charles plays in one of the toughest districts in Class 3A. They battle teams like John Curtis and Lusher High School. The Comets have made it to the state championship on numerous occasions over the last few seasons, but this is supposed to be a rebuilding season for SCC.
The Bulldogs have the air attack to hang with the Comets and the running attack to match. The trick will be to avoid the shootout and keep the Comets off of the field. Thomas has enough weapons that should allow the Bulldogs to keep the Comets’ defense off balanced and maybe keep the SCC offense off the field.
Ville Platte will have a lot more than just the Comets to worry about. It is not a secret that playing in the river parishes is hard and winning is even harder. VPHS Head Coach Tracy Jagneaux is no slouch, he knows this will be a tough game.
Kickoff time is set for 7 p.m. at St. Charles.
