Demons split games at New Iberia Tournament

The Mamou High Demons traveled to New Iberia to participate in the New Iberia Senior High baseball tournament this past weekend. Mamou moves to 2-10 on the year after splitting two games in the tournament. The Demons lost to Catholic of New Iberia 7-2 and defeated New Iberia 6-5. Here are summaries of the two games played by Mamou.
Game one saw the Demons trail the Catholic High Panthers throughout the contest. Catholic scored first, plating two runs in the bottom of the opening inning. The Panthers tacked on five more in the fourth to go up 7-0. Mamou mounted a small comeback in the top of the seventh, scoring their only two runs of the game.
Tucker Rougeau led all Demons at the plate, going one for two and collecting two runs batted in. Toby Fontenot suffered the loss on the mound, giving up five runs in three and one third innings. Fontenot stuck out one and walked two.
In game two, Mamou fell behind 1-0 after the first inning of play. The Demons tied the game in the top of the second, plating a run when Tucker Rougeau scored from third on a passed ball. Mamou gained command of the game in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs. New Iberia cut back into the Demons lead by adding two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Yellow Jackets tried to mount a comeback, tacking on runs in the sixth and seventh, but could not complete the task, as Demon pitching was able to stop the run.
Corey Bordelon collected the win, throwing four complete innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out one. Tanner Rougeau went one for three with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead all Demon hitters.
