Eunice High edges Sacred Heart girls 69-66

PINE PRAIRIE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats opened the Pine Prairie High School Tournament Wednesday evening with a 69-66 victory over the Sacred Heart High Lady Trojans.
In improving their season record to 4-5, the Lady Bobcats took control of the early portion of the game with an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Shay Vigers led the scoring with six points, with Stacie White and Shania Malveaux scoring four apiece.
The Lady Bobcats extended their lead with an 18-14 advantage in the second quarter to take a 36-26 halftime lead. Vigers had six points and White had five in the second quarter to lead the Lady Cats.
But the Lady Trojans began to make a move in the third quarter, led by the scoring of Erin Fontenot and Mo Parks. Fontenot and Parks scored six points apiece as Sacred Heart used an 18-12 scoring advantage to climb back in contention.
The Lady Trojan surge cut the Lady Bobcat lead to 48-44 heading into the final quarter.
Mia LeJeune and Malveaux scored six points apiece to lead Eunice High in the third quarter.
The game remained close as the Lady Bobcats trailed late in the quarter, but clutch free throws by White and Vigers in the final minutes gave the Lady Cats the victory.
White topped the Eunice High scoring with 20 points as she hit five field goals and 10 of 17 from the free-throw line.
Malveaux finished with 19 points, six of which came from beyond the 3-point line.
Vigers added 15 points for the Lady Cats, while Aisha Ledet had seven, including two 3-point goals. Lejeune and Lakeera Garret rounded out the Eunice scoring with six and two points, respectively.
Fontenot led the Lady Trojans with 26 points. Gabby Andrepont also hit the double-figure mark with 15 points.
