The fifth-ranked team in Class 1A, Basile, made short work of the Hamilton Christian Academy  Warriors Friday night.
The Bearcats were coming off of a road win against Merryville and looking to go up 2-0 in district play and remain undefeated for the year. The Bearcats, under the guidance of Head Coach Tony Bertrand, took a 38-3 win over HCA.
Basile’s defense shined again in the contest. They held the Warriors to just 157 yards overall. Of the 157, 114 came in the air. Basile’s offense piled up big yards with a total of 373. Basile ran for the most part, gobbling up 329 yards on the ground. Quarterback Mark Ivory was four of nine for 44 yards in the air. Kendrick Ceasar took 15 hand-offs for 178 yards. This is the second week in a row that he hits the 175-yard mark on the ground. Overall, five different Basile players carried the ball out of the backfield.
The Cats’ first score of the game came early in the first quarter. Gabe Fontenot took the football in from 22 yards out and Mark LeDoux added the extra point kick.
After BHS forced a three-and-out, Ceasar wasted no time. He awed the Basile crowd with a 97-yard run from scrimmage for a touchdown. Mason Deshotel capped the speedy score with a two-point conversion.
Basile’s 15-0 lead was cut into when Hamilton Christian ripped a 25-yard field goal.
In the second quarter, Basile got back to scoring when Deshotel took in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Mark Ivory. LeDoux hit the extra point and it was now a 22-3 contest.
Basile’s defensive unit found a way to score in the ball game. Josh Bertrand dropped deep and found an errant pass for an interception. From there, Bertrand did what he had to do and mustered for 29 yards and a score. LeDoux banged the extra point, making it a 29-3 score.
With a good lead at the half, Basile was not about to let Hamilton back into the game. They added 10 more points in third period. LeDoux got the first points of the third period with a 30-yard field goal.
As the clock expired in the period, Clintrell Sias capped a drive with a seven-yard touchdown run.
Basile cruised to the win and now get ready to travel to South Cameron. The long drive to meet the 2-3 Tarpons should make Basile 3-0 in league play and 6-0 overall. South Cameron is coming off of a 43-28 win over first-year team Grand Lake. The Tarpons also defeated Gueydan in week one.
