Fourth ranked Basile heads to South Cameron

The Basile Bearcats attained a fourth slot in the Louisiana Class 1A polls this week. With that good news, Basile heads south to play the Tarpons of South Cameron (2-3). Basile is expected to make short work of the SCHS team that has defeated only two teams this year, Grand Lake and Gueydan, both of which have losing records.
Basile is healthy and getting better by the week. They are giving up just eight points a game and a total of 43 points collectively. Only St. Ed’s has scored more than once against Basile.
Defense is the key to winning championships and BHS Head Coach Tony Bertrand understands that. His defensive unit, which has no stellar standouts, has worked as a unit and has not pulled any punches so far this year.
“Our goal is to keep getting beater each and every week and be healthy down the stretch,” Bertrand said.
The BHS offense has also been firing on all cylinders. The Cats are known for having a great running game, but as of late, Mark Ivory has been passing for 100 or more yards per game. Furthermore, he is spreading the love around. He’s hit Mason Deshotel and Clintrell Sias on numerous occasions. While doing that, it has taken defensive focus off of Kendrick Ceasar. The junior tailback and super sprinter has enjoyed the “non-attention” lately. He has run for 178 and 177 yards respectively in the last two games.
Basile should be able to go to South Cameron and escape without any problems. The Tarpons are coming off of a 43-28 win over Grand Lake, a school in it’s first year of football. The Tarps are giving up an average of 21 points a game, including 40 points to Mamou in week two.
A win for Basile moves them to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in league play. Basile would love to be 8-0 heading into their big games against Elton and Oberlin in the final two weeks of the season.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Cameron tomorrow night.
