Mamou High head power lifting coach Kirk Lavergne has high hopes for both his boy’s and girl’s squads in the state power lifting meet being held tomorrow and Saturday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
“Our kids have really been working hard this season to reach the ultimate goal of being named team state champions,” stated Lavergne. “We really have a great chance of winning the team titles and we also have some lifters that are going in as we have several team members going in as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.”
“It has been great to watch these athletes continue to make progress all year long,” he continued. “Our program has really gotten off the ground and we hope it continues to do so when other students see what we have accomplished in the last few years.”
For the Demons, three lifters in the boy’s division and one lifter in the girl’s division go into the state meet as the No. 1 seed.
Those boys are Chase Guillory in the 132 pound weight class, Hunter Marcantel in the 165 pound weight class and Dakota Fruge in the super heavy weights.
The lone girl lifter going in as the No. 1 seed is Tamara Wilson, who competes in the 220 pound weight class.
Going in as a No. 2 seed for the boys are Parker Granger (128 pounds), Devin Messer (242 pounds) and Sammy Martello (275 pounds.
For the Lady Demon lifters, two girls enter the meet as the No. 2 seed; Jasmine Gallow (123 pounds) and Destiny Davis (165 poiunds).
Seeded No. 3 for Mamou are Jaylen Griffith (boy’s 198 pound class), Regan Douget (girl’s 114 pound class) and Shelbie Soileau (girl’s 148 pound class).
Also competing for the Demons are Joseph Mabe (132 pounds), Dylan West (148 pounds) and Marcus Calvin (181 pounds).
The Lady Demons fill out their team with Hannah Beene (105 pounds) and Tayrn Celestine (148 pounds).
