The Montgomery Tigers blanked the Mamou Green Demons, 34-0, Friday night, as both teams wrapped up their non-district slate.
With its second straight loss, Mamou falls to 1-4 on the year.  They will travel to DeQuincy next week to open up play in District 4-2A.
The Tigers improve to 4-1 and will host Northwood Lena next week.
Montgomery scored two touchdowns in both the first quarter and the third quarter.  Meanwhile, its defense recorded a safety in the third quarter.
“We’ve just got to keep working,” Demon head coach Kevin Manuel said after the game.  “We made too many mistakes, and we shot ourselves in the foot.”
A first-quarter Demon mistake – a fumble – gave Montgomery the ball on Mamou’s seven yardline.  Three plays later, James Davis scored on a two-yard run.  Chris Sykes added the two-point conversion, and the Tigers led 8-0 early on.
After stopping Mamou on fourth-and-one, the Tigers scored on its next possession, a four-yard Davis run.  Davis added the two-point conversion, and suddenly Montgomery’s lead was 16-0.
Mamou seemed to rally in the second quarter, taking the ball on a seven minute, 63-yard drive.  However, the Demons stalled inside the Tiger 20-yardline and failed to put points on the board.
Mamou’s defense managed to keep Montgomery scoreless the rest of the half and went into the locker room trailing by a manageable two touchdown deficit.
The Demons hoped to carry some momentum into the third quarter.  However, the Tigers sacked Mamou’s quarterback for a safety, upping its lead to 18-0.
By rule, after the sack Mamou had to kick right back to Montgomery.  The Tigers took full advantage of the opportunity, scoring on a 61-yard, eight play drive.  Sykes rushed for a four-yard touchdown; and Bijon Washington made the two-point conversion.
With the 26-0 lead, Montgomery was comfortably in control.
The Demons were forced to punt on its next possession, and Montgomery scored again.  This time, quarterback Brady Atkins hit Washington on an 18-yard pass for the touchdown.  Davis made the two-point conversion to set the score, 34-0.
Davis led all rushers with 18 rushes for 103 yards, a touchdown, and a pair of two-point conversions.
Mamou’s Daniel Thomas led the Demons with 10 carries for 59 yards.  Nathaniel Holland added 35 yards for Mamou.
