Montgomery Wolves bring hot streak to Mamou

After suffering a tough 40-0 loss to Sacred Heart last week, the Mamou Demons are hoping for a better outing this week when they host the Montgomery Wolves (3-1). The Wolves are one of the better teams in central Louisiana with big wins to boot. Mamou hasn’t seen a win since week two against South Cameron, but the Demons are poised to pull off a big upset.
Montgomery is coming off of a 48-20 win over the Bulldogs of Red River, a Class 2A school. The Wolves put up an impressive win in week one when they destroyed Class 4A Grant 30-0.
Thus far, Mamou has not been able to put up a score since the second quarter of the Pine Prairie game. Mamou was held out of the end zone last week by a fast-moving Sacred Heart defense. Mamou’s classic style wing-T offense didn’t manage much overall output.
For Montgomery, the Wolves have been putting up big numbers. The Class 1A young power has scored 132 points in four games. Even in their only loss this season, the Wolves found a way to put up 20 points.
On defense, the Montgomery team has held teams to just 57 points. In their 29-20 loss to St. Fred’s, the Wolves were in the game right until the end.
Mamou has a lot to work on this week in their Thursday night game. The Demons’ short week will play a toll on them, despite playing against a smaller school.
The Demons are one game away from starting a very tough district schedule. The Demons will want to get sharp on both sides of the ball before that slate begins.
Mamou’s passing attack has seen some success, but the defensive unit still has a long way to go. District 4-2A has two teams that are undefeated going into week five and that means the odds will be stacked against the Demons.
Mamou will look to keep Montgomery’s offense off the field as much as possible tonight. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Mamou High School.
