Pine Prairie sweeps Port Barre; Sacred Heart picks up win

It was a good night for both Pine Prairie basketball teams, as they swept Port Barre Tuesday in a home district doubleheader.
Meanwhile the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans continued their winning ways, taking another home district win, this time over David Thibodaux.
Here is a round-up of those three games played.
Port Barre (G)
vs. Pine Prairie
The Lady Panthers secured a tie for second place in District 5-3A with a 47-19 trouncing of the Lady Red Devils.
Pine Prairie’s defense held Port Barre to single digits in every quarter, as they took control of the game with a 14-4 advantage after one quarter of play.
The Lady Panthers led 34-8 at the end of the first half and 40-13 by the close of the third quarter.
Sarah Vidrine led Pine Prairie with 10 points on the night.
The Lady Panthers finish the season at 16-7 overall and 7-3 in district. They will await the playoff pairings to be released on Monday.

Port Barre (B)
vs. Pine Prairie
Pine Prairie picked up their third district win in a row, as they slipped past Port Barre by the score of 48-38.
Darnell Durgin netted six points in the first quarter, en route to a game high 25 points to lead the Panthers.
Pine Prairie never trailed, taking a 14-9 lead after the first period and going into the locker room with a 25-17 lead.
The Panthers outscored the Red Devils 11-16 in the third quarter. Port Barre was three points better, 15-12, in the final period, but could not mount a comeback.
Pine Prairie is now 15-12 on the year and 4-4 in district play. The Panthers will travel to Ville Platte to take on the Bulldogs tomorrow night in district play.

David Thibodaux (G) vs. Sacred Heart
The Lady Trojans secured a second place finish in District 5-2A with a convincing 60-30 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Sacred Heart dominated from the tip-off, taking a 16-5 lead after the first quarter.
The Lady Trojans continued to pour it on in the second period, outpacing the Lady Bulldogs 11-7.
The second half was much of the same for Sacred Heart, as they held and eight point advantage in each of the final two quarters.
Sacred Heart’s Erin Fontenot lit up the scoreboard with 26 points, with 15 of those points coming in the final quarter to lead all scorers
Catherine Poche added 17 points, while Moira Parks pitched in 10 points for the Lady Trojans.
Sacred Heart will travel to Grand Coteau tomorrow to take on the Academy of the Sacred Heart.
