Sacred Heart garners huge non-district road win over Rayne

RAYNE – A seven run seventh inning was the major difference for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans softball team, as they pulled away from the Rayne Lady Wolves in a 14-6 non-district win here Monday afternoon.
The win marked the thirteenth win of the season against six losses for the No. 7 ranked team in Division III.
Sacred Hear got on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
Caroline Fontenot singled to lead the game off, followed by a walk from Sydney Fontenot.
An error on the Rayne defense off of the bat of Karli Fontenot allowed Caroline Fontenot to score and put runners at first and second. A single by Olivia Hernandez brought home Sydney Fontenot.
Rayne cut the lead in half, plating a single run in the bottom of the first. After holding the Lady Trojans scoreless in the top of the second, the Lady Wolves tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the inning.
Sacred Heart tacked on three runs in the top of the third when Olivia Hernandez and Madison Hernandez scored on a double from Erin Fontenot. A second double from Emilyse Bergeron plated Fontenot.
Rayne answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 5-4 and tied the game up once again in the bottom of the fifth with a solo run.
The Lady Trojans provided themselves with some breathing room in the top of the sixth by adding two more runs.
After Sydney Fontenot led off with a ground out to shortstop, Karli Fontenot singled and Olivia Hernandez reached on an error.
Madison Hernandez stroked a double, scoring Fontenot and Olivia Hernandez, as Sacred Heart opened a two run lead.
After holding Rayne to no runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Trojans blasted away for seven runs in their final at bat.
The Lady Wolves did manage to scrape a run across in the bottom of the seventh, but could not overcome the nine run deficit.
Madison Hernandez and Erin Fontenot led the way at the plate for Sacred Heart, both going three-for-five.
Aubrey Foret and Camille Fontenot combined for the win.
