OAKDALE – The Sacred Heart Lady Trojan softball team was looking to expand their record this past weekend as they participated in the Oakdale Invitational Tournament.
As the tourney came to a close, the Lady Trojans had done just that, winning two and losing one game to improve their overall record to 6-3.
In their first contest, Sacred Heart fell to the Many Lady Tigers in an eight inning shoot-out by the score of 16-12.
In the contest, both teams combined for 22 hits, while the Lady Trojans committed seven errors.
Many, the visiting team, jumped out on Sacred Heart 2-1 after one inning of play and proceeded to rattle off six more runs in the second inning to take an 8-1 lead.
After giving up another run to the Lady Tigers in the top of the third, the Lady Trojans produced seven runs in the third and fourth innings combined.
Sacred Heart added another run in the fifth to tie the game at 9-9.
Both teams were held scoreless in the sixth and both teams allowed two runs each in the seventh.
However, the eighth inning spelled the difference in the game, as the Lady Tigers knocked in five runs and held the Lady Trojans to only a single run.
Game two proved a little different for Sacred Heart as they were on the winning side of a 13-11 win over East Beauregard.
In that contest, the Lady Trojans pounded out 16 hits and committed only one error.
Sacred Heart led 6-2 after two innings of play and 7-4 after the third inning. The Lady Trojans scored five runs in the next two innings, while holding the East Beauregard to only a single run over that same span.
East Beauregared made a late charge, plating six runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Sacred Heart managed to shut them down to preserve the win.
Game three was not as close for the Lady Trojans, as they struck early and often for a 12-3 win over Elizabeth.
Sacred Heart took control quickly, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 7-1 in the first three innings.
After Elizabeth plated two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 7-3, the Lady Trojans scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
