Mason Deshotel had a career game last night against Elton High School.

Third ranked Basile wins District 4-1A Championship

By: Lance Reed

With a 42-12 slugging of Elton, the Basile Bearcats clinched the District 4-1A Championship and remain undefeated on the year. The win makes it officially a share of the title, due to East Beauregard and Oberlin each being 5-1 in district. East Beauregard beat Oberlin and Basile beat East Beauregard. Therefore, Oberlin has to be defeated by Basile for them to win the title outright.

The Cats improved to 9-0 on the season with a match-up coming up in Oberlin (6-3). The Cats not only destroyed their long time rivals over the creek Friday night, but they sent a message to those teams that may be looking ahead to the playoffs. Basile is looking very hard at getting that top four seed that so many teams vie for.

Basile scored early and often in the contest. They got huge performances from several players in this contest.

Quarterback Mark Ivory had a career night. He was 12 of seven for 157 yards. He linked up with Mason Deshotel on five occasions. The duo gobbled up 129 yards and Deshotel scored twice. Deshotel also ran a punt back for Basile.

On the ground, Kendrick Ceasar led the charge with 142 yards and Gabriel Fontenot was behind him with 42 yards.

Basile collected a total of over 300 yards on offense and had a very balanced attack.

On defense, Elton’s Marcus Lemoine was tough to stop. He carried the ball 25 times for 176 yards altogether. Elton was held to just 46 yards total on the day.

Basile will seek to go 10-0 on the season with a big match-up in Oberlin next week. It is always tough to win there. Oberlin is coming off of a 28-14 win over South Cameron.

A win for Basile could possibly keep them in to the top of the power ratings and almost guarantee back to back home games in the playoffs.
