VP Majors host District Seven Tourney

The Ville Platte Majors (11-12 year-old) will host the District Seven Tournament this weekend. The action all begins Saturday and will last throughout the next Thursday, July 10th.
Ville Platte will do battle Saturday at at 3 p.m. against the second seed from the western part of the district. Brackets were not released at press time without all opponents listed, only times of the games in the double elimination event.
A win for VP in the first round moves them to play Sunday, July 6th, at 1 p.m. against the winner of game one. Game one features the top seed from the central sub-district, Beauregard, against the third seed from the east sub-district, Pine Prairie. A loss for VP means they would play again Sunday at 1 p.m.
Mamou earned the runner-up spot in the eastern sub-district. They will play at 1 p.m. Saturday against DeRidder. A win for Mamou moves them to play Sunday at 3 p.m. against the winner of the western champion and Vernon American, the third seed from the central sub-district. A loss for Mamou in the first round pins them against the loser of the above mentioned game. That loser’s bracket game would take place Sunday at 3 p.m. also.
Pine Prairie will take on the top seed, Beauregard, from the central sub-district. The two teams collide Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game meets the winner of Ville Platte and the second seed from the west. A loss for Pine moves them to play at 1 p.m. Sunday against the loser of the above mentioned game.
The event is double elimination, with the finals taking place Thursday at 5:30 p.m. There is an “if necessary” available that night. It will take place no later than 30 minutes after the first game.
Ville Platte went 3-0 in sub-district. They defeated Oberlin 10-2 in their first game. Dru Scully (3-3, HR, 2B) led off the game with a solo home run. Christian Duplechin (2-4, HR, 3B) followed with a solo shot of his own. Ville Platte scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tyler Mire and Jacques Leger each doubled in the contest. Daegan Mitchell earend the win on the hill.
Ville Platte got by Pine Prairei 18-0 in the second contest. Lucas Vallet earned the win on the hill. Ville Platte scored in every trip to the plate. Duplechin and Mitchell led the way going 2-4 at the plate. Duplechin hit a three-run home run. Tyler Mire was also 2-4 with a double, while Jaden Prudhomme and Noah Soileau were both 2-3 at the plate.
Ville Platte cruised by Mamou 16-1 in the third game. Aiden Lejeune got the win on the mound for VP.
On offense, Duplechin and Scully were each 3-4 at the plate. Duplechin hit a home run in the final innings of the contest. Vallet and Prudhomme were each 2-3 at the dish.
Mamou scored their only run in the first inning.
All three Evangeline Parish teams will be doing battle this weekend in Ville Platte.
