Monique Hicks, executive director of ResCare HomeCare of Opelousas, was the guest speaker at the January 31 Ville Platte Rotary Club meeting.
Hicks said, “We want to make sure that all your loved ones stay in their home because that’s where they thrive. Sometimes when they go to the nursing home, you see them go down, so we want to make sure that they have a quality of life in their home, with their care, and make sure that their family members are taken care of also.
“We take the burden, and we want to make sure that everything is going well for the family and the loved one at home.”
ResCare HomeCare of Opelousas offers a range of nursing support and other home care services. Services offered include personal care such as assistance with daily living activities like meal planning and preparation, bathing, housekeeping, transportation and running of errands, signature programs to help with, disease management, geriatric care management, life management and medication care management and telecare – remote, wireless, around-the-clock monitoring of a client. The business also offers respite care to give a primary caregiver time off. The services are available for all ages.
“We can provide services for as little as two to three hours or even 24 hours,” Hicks said.
She continued, “We have several physically disabled clients who live on their own. It’s awesome to see them living on their own without having to have family help them. They can be independent. They are not in a facility. They are in their own apartment or home and living on their own.”
ResCare HomeCare Opelouas has a staff of 200 and has more than 180 clients in several parishes, including Evangeline and St. Landry, and as far north as Natchitoches. All in-home staff members must complete a 60 hour training course and staff members can also receive training for Alzheimers care and other health situations. The services are dual funded and can be paid for through Medicaid, V.A., private insurance and Workmen’s Comp.
