Mamou PD arrest mother, daughter duo for store theft

The Mamou Police Department is making it a point to let people know that they will not tolerate theft from local businesses in town. To prove this, on September 21, 2015 the MPD dispatched officer Steven Ardoin to respond to a complaint of theft.
Upon arrival at a local Mamou store, Ardoin was able to view footage of two females, known to be mother and daughter, taking two cases of Bud Light Beer and placing it at the bottom of their shopping basket.
Trachelle Richardson, 23, had placed the beer in her buggy while her mother Lisa Garnette, 46, watched to make sure no one witnessed the crime being committed.
According to the MPD press release, while her mother kept a watch out, Richardson “parked her basket by the cake case and then exited out of the east door without paying for their items.”
After being arrested and bonding out of jail back in September, the mother and daughter crime team had their day in court.
On November 17, 2015 Garnette and Richardson faced Judge Tim Fontenot in Mamou’s city court, where they were both sentenced to 90 days in jail.
Since the ruling, the two women have been transported to the parish jail to serve out their sentence.
The MPD has also recently been working to stop the domestic abuse in their town.
On November 11, 2015 Private Investigator Ethan John responded to a threat complaint.
When John arrived at the home of 64-year-old Mamou resident Barbara Adams, she told him that she had been threatened by her husband Willie Adams because she did not want to purchase gas for him.
According to the MPD press release, “the verbal argument lead to a physical altercation.”
During the physical altercation, Barbara was struck several times to the left side of her face and then pushed to the floor, where her husband then proceeded to choke her.
According to the MPD press release, Barbara said that “Mr. Adams stated to her that he wanted to kill her and when she was almost dead he would leave her lying on the floor and walk to the MPD and turn himself in.”
On November 2, Willie was arrested for domestic abuse. Adams, 59, has been transported to the parish jail and is being held without bond.
