Pine Prairie more than likely needs one more for playoffs

It is hard to think that an entire success of a season could rest in the last two games played.
But, that may be the case for the Pine Prairie Panthers. The Panthers sit in the No. 34 position in the latest playoff power ratings, two spots out of a post-season appearance.
“I really think that we have to have one win out of the next two ball games to have a chance at making the playoffs,” stated Pine Prairie head coach Yves Prince. “What is hurting us right now is the loss to Beau Chene and the loss to Eunice.”
In the Beau Chene game, the Panthers led 19-0 at the half, but lost 27-26.
Against Eunice last Friday night, Pine Prairie tied the game at 13-13 in the third quarter but could not sustain the momentum and eventually fell to the Bobcats by the score of 27-13.
Last week, the Panthers ran into a force that they could not handle, as they were outmanned from the start in a 35-0 loss to the Northwest Raiders.
“They were big and they showed up to play against us,” commented Prince. “I do not know how they lost to Church Point. They shut down our running game and we tried to throw the ball, but we are just not that type of team. It was just one of those games.”
Tomorrow night, the Panthers will get another crack at breaking into the top 32 teams in Class 3A when they host the Iota Bulldogs. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs come into the contest with an overall record of 6-2. Both of their losses occurred in district play. Iota averages 36.9 points per game and gives up 15.6 points per game.
“Iota likes to stack the box on defense and blitzes on almost every play,” said Prince. “We are going to have to find a way to throw the ball against them. Offensively, they run the ball a ton and run it well. Their running back is a tremendous athlete.”
