Six charged in string of Mamou burglaries

Three Mamou men and three juveniles have been charged in a string of over 20 home and car burglaries that occurred over the last three months.
According to Mamou Detective Marie Potter, Norris Dick Jr., 30, 816 Ninth St., Mamou; Ladell Michael Collins, 17, 1012 Hickory St., Mamou; and Blandon Richard, 17, 305 Eighth St., Mamou; have all been charged in this case. Also charged were three teenaged juveniles who were too young to be charged as adults.
These arrests were the result of a burglary call on January 10, in which Police Chief Robert McGee and his officers apprehended Collins and Richard. Information obtained from questioning the two suspects led to the other four arrests and the connection of these six individuals to the string of burglaries that have taken place in Mamou.
Detective Potter stated some of the stolen items have been recovered and if residents believe they may be in possession of stolen items from these crimes, they are asked to come forward. She also added that there may be victims out there who still have not realized they’ve been burglarized or, in the case of the car burglaries, may have reported the theft to another police department and asks them to contact the Mamou Police Department to report any items that may be missing.
Potter stated this investigation is ongoing and more arrests may be made.
Chief McGee thanked his patrolmen for their work in this case and finally apprehending these suspects. He also thanked the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and said he is looking forward to working with them more in the future.
If you see any suspicious activity in the Town of Mamou, please contact the police department at 468-5221 to report it. Your call will remain anonymous.
