Thief steals gasoline from Mamou station

A thief managed to manually shut off a gas pump at the Shell station on Poinciana Street in Mamou and steal hundreds of dollars in gasoline.
The theft was discovered when the owner of the gas station was unable to turn the gas pumps on from inside his store. This was a sign, according to the owner, that the pumps had been tampered with. Mamou police began to investigate and while viewing surveillance footage spotted a Ford F-150 parked at the diesel pump for 15 minutes, pumping fuel into the truck and a tank in the bed of the truck.
According to a technician who examined the pumps after the theft, it appeared they had been turned off manually, which would require a code and master key, two pieces of information only given to those who install and maintain the pumps and the station owners.
This theft remains under investigation and authorities urge other gas station owners in the area to reset the codes on their gas pumps to prevent future thefts.
