Town of Mamou reminds residents of fireworks ordinance
With the Fourth of July coming up, the Town of Mamou is reminding residents of the town’s fireworks ordinance.
The ordinance states that it is unlawful for any individual or group to discharge fireworks of any kind except during the Christmas holiday season and Independence Day celebration, from July 3, to July 4. On July 3, fireworks can be discharged between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 a.m. and on July 4, fireworks can be discharged between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Please keep in mind that it is always unlawful to discharge fireworks within 1,000 feet of any church, hospital or school or within 75 feet of where fireworks are stored or sold.
Anyone found guilty of violating any of the provisions in the ordinance shall be fined up to $200 or imprisoned for up to 30 days for each violation.
