On the night of December 29, 2016 the Ville Platte Police Department responded to a stabbing at Country Cove.
According to an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office press release, “the initial investigation completed by the Ville Platte Police Department revealed that the stabbing occurred at the 2600 block of the Tate Cove Road,” which means that the stabbing did not take place at the store although the victim was located there.
The release went on to state that “the victim was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center to be treated before being AIRMED to Lafayette General Hospital.” No details on the victim’s current condition have been released at this time.
Although the EPSO is currently still investigating this matter, Elton Tezeno Jr. of Ville Platte has been arrested in connection with this crime and has been charged with attempted second degree murder. Tezeno remains incarcerated on a $350,000.00 bond.
According to the arrest warrant for Tezeno, the VPPD responded to the stabbing after police were notified by an employee at Country Cove that a “black female was in the parking lot” of the store “bleeding heavily.”
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was unable to provide them with any information. However, she was “able to write ‘Kill Elton,’” as well as a phone number “in her own blood on the rear drivers side door.”
The victim received multiple lacerations, as well as a punctured lung from the incident.
On Wednesday, January 4th, Tezeno appeared before Judge Gary Ortego for his 72-hour hearing.
During the hearing, Jacob Fusilier was appointed to represent the defendant.
Tezeno’s next appearance in court will be on February 2, 2016 for his arraignment.
