On Wednesday, Evangeline Parish Sheriff Eddie Soileau released a statement regarding citizens wearing sheriff deputy tee-shirts.
The sheriff’s statement read: Good day ladies and gentlemen of Evangeline Parish and elsewhere. It has been brought to my attention that we may have people wearing this type of shirt who may be involved in burglaries or thefts in our Parish. We at the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office do have officers who wear this type of shirt at times , but are commissioned officers. If someone shows up at your house wearing this shirt but doesn’t drive a police car, or is not wearing a gun belt and badge, and doesn’t properly identify her/himself, please take precaution especially at night. If you feel uneasy, tell them to wait and call my office at 337-363-2161. My dispatch service will answer any questions and know the location of all my officers. This is to give you a little peace of mind and safety. The description of the shirt to be aware of that civilians that are non-commissioned officers may be wearing can be identified as a tee-shirt with the SHERIFF lettering written across the front and back of the shirt.
Thank you,
Eddie Soileau, Sheriff
