Ville Platte youth summer work program set

The City of Ville Platte has recently initiated its own Ville Platte Youth on the Move Summer Employment Program serving ages 16 to 18 years old, enrolled in high school and residing in the Ville Platte city limits. Application time is now. Ville Platte Youth on the Move Summer Employment Program is sponsored, facilitated and funded by the City of Ville Platte.
The program is designed for youth to be partnered with local businesses, which serve as a work-environment mentor for the duration of the program. The program will be open to high school students between 16 and 18 years old and who live in the city limits, regardless of where they go to school. There will not be an economic component to the hiring. Instead, applicants will be hired on their individual application and interview. The spots will be split, with 12 applicants selected in June and a different 12 chosen for July.
Those who are hired will be placed with a local business to work for four hours in the morning. After lunch, they will attend mandatory job-skills classes and job-readiness training. The youth will be exposed to actual hands-on work experience, daily employability training that concentrates on business etiquette; social and personal skills; goal setting; time management; money management; grooming and other aspects of the world of work. If a youth does not abide with these requirements daily, he/she will be terminated from the program. The effectiveness of this goal-oriented youth summer employment program will be demonstrated by a youth’s acceptance of the Ville Platte Youth on the Move zero tolerance policy.
