Zydeco Music Festival to be held this weekend in nearby Plaisance

The 33rd Southwest Louisiana Annual Zydeco Festival will be held at Zydeco Park in Plaisance on Saturday, September 5. (Festival will be held at the Yambilee Building in Opelousas in the event of inclement weather).
Entry fee is $5 for children and $10 for adults. Music will begin at 12 noon. The festival’s theme this year is “Tout les chemins a’ Plaisance,” “Se Payi de Zydeco.” Come celebrate the roots of Zydeco: 33 Years of an unbroken tradition of Creole music and culture.
The festival will present the best in Zydeco with a little Cajun and more. This year’s event will be a tribute to John Delafose.
Some of the fun events planned include a Zydeco breakfast and mini ride, black pot cook off, Creole food and lots of fun for the children. Members coolers or small coolers welcomed.
The following is a schedule of events.
KICK-OFF DANCE: 9 p.m., at Slim’s Y-Ki Ki, featuring Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws and Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys.
ZYDECO BREAKFAST: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Opelousas Courthouse Square. The free admission breakfast is hosted by the City of Opelousas, Zydeco capital of the world.
ZYDECO BLACK POT COOK OFF: Starting at 8 a.m. on the fairrounds. All food must be prepared on site and served to Judges at 12 noon. (no exceptions). Winners will be announced by 1 p.m. First place prize is $100 and prizes and trophies will be awarded to second and third place winners.
ZYDECO MINI RIDE: Zydeco Park Grounds - Ride leaves at 3 p.m. Party wagons and four wheelers will ride along the Zydeco Trails in Zydeco Country.
Everyone is invilted to come out and have “A foot stompin’ good time!”
