Funeral services will be held for George Patrick Derouen Sr., 85, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 6. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Mr. Derouen died Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte. While a young man, he served his country with great honor and pride as a soldier in the United States Army. That pride remained ever present throughout the remainder of his years.
Survivors include his one true love, his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Manuel Derouen of Ville Platte; and their children, George Patrick Derouen Jr. and his wife, Lisa Soileau Derouen, of Tate Cove, Gregory Paul Derouen and his wife, Tracey Stagg Derouen, of Whiteville, Mellie Derouen Heller and her husband, K. C. Heller, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mary Margaret Derouen of Ville Platte. His memory will be cherished and passed on by his five precious grandchildren, M’Lea Derouen, Patrick Elby Derouen, Bradley Paul Derouen, Samuel Robert Heller and Caroline Ann Derouen. Also left behind to mourn are his two remaining siblings, Charles A. Derouen and Betty LaFleur, both of Ville Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Albert and Louisa Soileau Derouen; and one sister, Dorothy Derouen Manuel.
Father Mitchell Guidry will officiate.
