John Schexsnayder

November 10, 1927 - October 23, 2013
PINE PRAIRIE - Funeral services will be held for John Schexsnayder, 85, of Morrow, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Morrow at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 26. Burial will follow in the St. Peter’s Mausoleum.
A devoted father, grandfather and uncle, Mr. Schexnayder died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his beloved family. He was the last founding member of the Midland Swamp Hunting Club and a retired school bus driver, serving St. Landry Parish for over 17 years. He was also a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus and a current member of the Cypress Lake Hunting Club of Woodside. He was an extremely talented man, and he was an avid craftsman who enjoyed working with wood. His beautiful wooden rockers and swings adorn many local porches. This great love was passed on to and shared with his beloved grandson. He was also a skilled hunter and fisherman who liked nothing better than to cook his quarry for his good friends and family; his recipes, however, were not to be shared.
Survivors include his only daughter, Susan Schexsnayder and her companion, Kenneth Hazelton, of Morrow; one grandson, Michael “Mike” Volker Jr. of Pine Prairie; and one granddaughter, Angel Volker of Morrow.  He also leaves behind one sister, Louise Fontenot of Le Beau; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne “Bright” Marcotte of Morrow. His memory will be carried on by his nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all those lucky enough to have known and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Joyce Lee Marcotte Schexsnayder and Mary Lejeune Schexsnayder; two sons, Larry Paul Schexsnayder and Clayton James Schexsnayder; his parents, Eusebe and Arelin Soileau Schexsnayder Sr.; two brothers, Eusebe Schexsnayder Jr. and Aureline Schexsnayder; one sister, Oline Vige; and two infant sisters.
The Schexsnayders would like to convey their sincere gratitude to all of the caregivers from Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their excellent care, compassion and help during this trying time.
Father Mike Guidry, Father Austin Leger and Father Richard Broussard will officiate.
Family and friends may view the online obituary and/or sign the guestbook at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com.
