GRAND PRAIRIE - Funeral services were held for Joseph Kernal Brignac, 81, of Grand Prairie, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grand Prairie at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 17. Burial followed in the St. Peter’s Mausoleum.
Mr. Brignac died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Heart Hospital in Lafayette. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant He was assigned to Korea, where he was an instructor at N.C.O. Academy. After completing his tour, he taught school in Eunice, later transferring to Grand Prairie, where he then retired. He then went to work for Sears, in sales, and then accepted a job for the state where he retired as a registered sanitarian. A quiet and generous man, he enjoyed hunting, raising cattle, growing and sharing things from his garden with family and friends. His greatest love and pride was his wife and children. He was a cancer survivor, but later succumbed to illness due to Parkinson’s disease.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Enella Daigle Brignac of Grand Prairie; one son, Dwight Brignac (Sharon) of Grand Prairie; three daughters, Karen Barry (Karl) of Lafayette, Lisa Pemberton (Doug) of Southlake, Texas, and Julie Duplechain (Greg) of Carencro; two brothers, Ray Brignac and Russell (Wanda) Brignac; one sister, Geraldine Fontenot; two goddaughters, Paula LeJeune and Diane Meche; two sisters-in-law, Doloris Daigle and Gertrude Daigle; five brothers-in-law, Louis (Joella) Daigle, Bernard Daigle, Joe (Deloris) Daigle, Robert (Rita) Daigle and John N. Daigle; 12 grandchildren, who knew him as “Paw Paw B,” Corey, Collin and Sam Pemberton, Kathryn and Amanda Barry, Allyson, Adam and Emily Duplechain, Katelyn, Sarah and Caroline Brignac and Damon Doucet; one great-grandchild, Chandler Lee Wolff, and one on the way; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysse and Atile Morein Brignac; one brother, Juan Brignac; in-laws, Adeus and Francis Daigle; brothers-in-law, Pierre, Wilrey and Joseph (T-Man) Daigle and Gene Prudhomme; sisters-in-law, Geneva Prudhomme and Gloria Brignac; nephews, Creig and Mitch Brignac and Keith Daigle; and nieces, Monique Daigle, Carla Barras and Wanda Ortego.
