JOSEPH REINEL SMITH

April 29, 1938 - Jan. 26, 2017VILLE PLATTE - Visitation for Joseph Reinel Smith, 78 will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. It will reopen on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed in Smith’s honor at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Ardoin’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Father Guidry will officiate services. Smith will be laid to rest at Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.
Smith, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
The city and citizens of Ville Platte had the honor of having Smith serve as Fire Chief for over 30 years. He loved hunting, fishing, and helping Father Guidry and Mr. Ray at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. Smith spent a lot of quality time outdoors while watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Above all of he was the most loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a special place in everyone’s heart.
His memories will live on through his family. Smith is survived by his daughters, Sandra Fontenot and husband, Johnnie, Rebecca Fontenot and husband, Jeff and Myra Roberie and husband, Mitch; sister, Joyce Veillon and husband, Gene; grandchildren, Brock Anthony Fontenot, Brett Dale Fontenot and wife, Jennifer, Jesse Lee Fontenot and Payton Christopher Roberie; and great-grandchildren, Natalie Ann Fontenot and Lucas Brett Fontenot.
He now rests with his wife, Shirley Smith; parents, Lorena Fruge and Aldes Smith; brother, Roderick Smith; and granddaughter, Ava Roberie.
Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements.
