MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Raymond J. Lejeune, 64, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 2. Burial followed in the Pine Point Cemetery.
Mr. Lejeune died Monday, September 30, 2013, at his residence. He served as the chief criminal prosecutor and assistant district attorney of Evangeline Parish from 1997 through 2008. During that time, he handled the most difficult criminal cases for the Evangeline Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Prior to serving as chief criminal prosecutor, he had established the reputation of being an excellent criminal defense lawyer. During his entire career he handled over 50 trials either as prosecutor or defense attorney.
He was best known for his candor and wit in working with attorneys and judges. There is nothing he enjoyed more than a real joke to lighten any situation. He was a really good attorney and a great friend to all. He will truly be remembered as a successful trial attorney and prosecutor.     
He was an attorney in Mamou for 38 years; once served as Rotary president and was in the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #123, Woodman of The World and Jaycees. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn “Kitty” Brunet Lejeune of Mamou; two sons, Paul Raymond Lejeune and his companion, Christina Hollenbeck, of Erwinville and Brian Joshua Lejeune and his wife, P.J., of Baton Rouge; one granddaughter, Aila Jane Lejeune; and two brothers, Harold Lejeune of Jennings and Darell Lejeune of Mamou.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Romain and Annie Ardoin Lejeune.
