Kendrick Ceasar has become a dominant player on both sides of the football.

Basile cruises against Merryville

Rattling off six straight scores and marching to a 42-6 victory Friday night in Merryville, the sixth ranked Basile Bearcats showed why they are a force to be reckoned with and continue to get better each and every week. In a season where the Cats were supposed to be “rebuilding” they have been destroying opponents since week one and that includes a see-saw, breathtaking win over St. Ed’s last week.

The Cats scored two times in each of the first two quarters. Most of the scores came from Kendrick Ceasar. The dual-threat player was unstoppable and looked like a “man amongst boys” as he marched to 177 yards on 14 carries. Mark Ivory threw for 102 yards and completed 75 percent of his passes in the contest.

Basile fired perfectly on all cylinders. On defense, they kept the Panthers grounded for the most part. Only the Basile second and third stringers allowed a score. Overall, Merryville was held to just 35 yards against the BHS first string defense. The Panthers ended the game with a total of 133 yards.

“We were fortunate and have been fortunate to play and stay healthy,” said BHS Head Coach Tony Bertrand. “We have a good group of unselfish kids and they are really buying into what we are trying to do.”

The Basile defensive unit has become better and better each week. The unit stays disciplined and seems to be in the huddle with the offense. How do they do that?

“Our kids are dedicated to their team,” said the classy Bertrand.

Many of the Bearcats go in and watch film. They learn what their next opponent does. That helps tons for defensive players.

Those types of techniques are what Basile is doing to get better. After holding Merryville to almost no points, it speaks for itself. Basile has allowed one touchdown in three of their four games. That was simply amazing for a group that is “rebuilding.”

Basile (4-0) will face Hamilton Christian (1-3) next week. The Warriors will come to BHS after defeating South Cameron 21-0.
