Basile hosts Hamilton Christ; hoping to remain in top eight

One thing the Basile Bearcats know for sure, they will be in the post-season when the Class 1A brackets come out Sunday afternoon.
The one thing the Bearcats do not know, where will they fall in terms of seeding.
As of Monday, Basile rested in the No. 7 position of the LHSAA power ratings. If the Bearcats hope to improve on that position, they will have to take care of a little business first when they host the Hamilton Christian Warriors tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
“The only thing I know for sure is that we have to worry about the game at hand first,” stated Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “The rest will take care of itself. We cannot control what the other teams right above and right below us do, but we can control what we do. If we show up like we did last week, it could be a long night for us.”
Last week, Basile traveled to Grand Lake and did not play very well the first two quarters of the game. In fact, the Bearcats only led 10-7 at the half. Fortunately, the Bearcats got it together and came away with a hard fought 16-14 win in a game that should have been a sleeper.
“I think the coaches got their point across to the players at practice on Monday about being mentally ready to play,” said Bertrand with a sly smile and a wink. “With that being said, I think we will show up to play both physically and mentally tomorrow night.”
Hamilton Christian has struggled for most of the season. The Warriors sport an overall record of 2-6 and have surrendered 30.6 points per game on defense. Offensively, Hamilton Christian scores an average of 15 points per game.
“Hamilton Christian is very athletic and has good size,” commented Bertrand. “Even though they have low numbers, they have some good players. We will face a team that runs a ton of misdirection. Our defense will be challenged.”
