LAFAYETTE – Billy Nungesser, candidate for Louisiana Lt. Governor, received a high profile endorsement today with Sammy Kershaw’s announcement that he was throwing his support behind Nungesser. The country music star made his own run for Lt. Governor in the past, winning a majority of parishes in the primary. Kershaw has remained active in Louisiana politics ever since, campaigned nationally for presidential candidates such as John McCain and is vocal about his beloved state as he performs throughout North America.
Nungesser met Kershaw while both actively worked to bring attention to Louisiana’s coast after the Oil Spill. Kershaw immediately admired Nungesser’s fight to save the seafood industry and save an economic force for Louisiana’s southernmost parishes.
“Louisiana has seen its share of hard times over the past decade and during that time, no one proved to be a bigger voice or a better fighter for our state than Billy Nungesser,” said Kershaw. “He is hard working, honest and understands what its like to get up every day and do the right thing for the people he represents. He and I first met during the Oil Spill. He didn’t hesitate to stand up to President Obama and demand that our people go back to work. Billy will create jobs, grow our economy and promote Louisiana to the rest of the country and the world. We need someone that will represent the whole state and make everyone finally understand why we are the sportsman’s paradise. Billy is like me in that we both have a passion for this state. I am proud to endorse Billy Nungesser for Lt. Governor. He is a good man and will be a great Lt. Governor.”
