Halloween is this coming Tuesday, and all the younger ghouls and ghosts are getting their buckets ready for all the candy they will receive from going Trick-or-Treat. All the dentists are gearing up for a flood of appointments from all the rotten teeth, but I digress.

There are many activities that make up the annual La. Swine Festival held in Basile every first weekend of November. Several of those activities are competitions such as the pig chase, the boudin eating contest, the hog calling contest, the talent show, and the cook off.

For thousands of years, salt has been sitting under the surface of an area that is nestled off of Louisiana Highway 13 in the small community of Easton. This salt sat there untapped until Pine Prairie Energy Company came along and began to carve caverns out of the salt to store natural gas.

The Ville Platte Rotary Club at recent meetings heard from one of its own members about the organization’s Articles of Incorporation and heard from an insurance manager from the State Department of Insurance about free medicare counseling.
