Our annual Region III Senior Olympics will be held Saturday, June 13, at the Comeaux Recreational Center in Lafayette beginning at 10 a.m. We have several residents that will be competing in various events and everyone is looking forward to this year’s competition.

Our elders exhibit many behaviors. Causes range from delusions, hallucinations, mental illness diagnosis and developmental disabilities. Up to 50 percent of residents in a long-term care facility have some type of dementia. Don’t forget, behaviors are not the elder’s choice.

Why are we only willing to call sin, sin if we are talking about someone else’s life? If our desire is for the truth to be in us, we need to examine ourselves and admit the sin in our lives.

Many, many thanks to all who participated, donated, dressed out and cooked for the residents and staff of Heritage Manor during Nursing Home Week. Eloise Meche was honored at the Mother’s Day celebration and presented a plaque for being the Most Active Mother.

Jesus said, in Matthew 9:12, “They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.” It is obvious this is how Jesus wants us to view the unsaved, the cases that walked by our church doors.

Mother’s Day is a very important day for us. We have mothers ranging in age from 62 to 101 residing in our facility. We have a beautiful celebration planned for all of them. We will be serving cake and punch on Monday, May 11, at 1 p.m. in the activity room.

Here in Louisiana we grow some the best fruits and vegetables one can find due to the right type of soil and climate. And often times we have an abundance of crops. So what to do with the excess? Well just as your mother and grandmother did, Can them! But in a safe way…..

May is by far our most fun-filled month. It begins with a trip to the movies for our moms in recognition of Mother’s Day. We wish each and every mother a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day. On Monday, May 11, we will be honoring our mothers with a celebration of cake and punch.
