To kick off this Saturday’s Relay For Life Event, the Cops For A Cure team (Ville Platte Police Department) held a Jail and Bail fundraiser for the Evangeline Parish Relay For Life.

Cotton growing contest set, seeds available

Louisiana Cotton Festival Association Secretary and Pageant Director Kelli Buller announced that the festival’s annual cotton growing contest has begun. The Louisiana Cotton Festival has teamed up with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry for this contest.

Friends of Boggy Bayou benefit told

A special benefit, organized by Friends of Boggy Bayou, will be held Saturday, May 9, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This will benefit Gerald and Peggy Duplechin to help defray medical expenses at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Admission is a monetary donation.

Turkey Creek to hold first ‘Trade Day’ Saturday

The Village of Turkey Creek will host its first “Trade Day” this Saturday, May 2, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Drouet Park.
Mayor Heather Cloud said the Trade Days will continue through October 2015, with one being held on the first Saturday of each month.

Art of Evangeline Parish students on display Monday

Ten of Evangeline Parish’s talented visual art students will have their work on display Monday, April 27, in honor of Artists in the Capitol Day. Artwork will be on display in the Memorial Hall of the state capitol building in Baton Rouge.

Inventory tax proposal could leave EP $1 million short

On Wednesday night, the Evangeline Parish School Board briefly discussed a proposal from the senate that would repeal business inventory taxes and leave the parish with over $1 million less in tax collections.

Relay for Life rescheduled

The Evangeline Parish Relay For Life that was scheduled for April 18, was postponed due to inclement weather. Chairwoman Connie Lamke stated that the committee was working hard behind the scenes to arrange a new date as quickly as possible.

VP Chamber announces nominees

The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce announced its nominees for Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Man of the Year and Woman of the Year. Winners will be awarded at the annual chamber banquet April 29. They are as follows:

Justice Dept. launches investigation into Ville Platte Police Department and Evangeline Parish Sheriff's office

The United States Justice Department announced Tuesday that it has opened “pattern or practice” investigations into the use of investigative holds by the Ville Platte Police Department (VPPD) and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).
